Einstein Challenge:

Menattallah is currently focusing on studying DNA repair mechanisms. She is interested in deeply understanding cellular processes to reveal new connections between pathways that are not yet discovered, as to improve diagnosis and personalized treatment.

Menattallah Elserafy is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Genomics, Zewail City of Science and Technology (ZC). She utilizes budding yeast as a model organism to identify novel gene functions in DNA repair and genome maintenance pathways. She is also a lecturer of undergraduate and postgraduate students of ZC. Menattallah did her MSc and Ph.D. at Heidelberg University in Germany.

At the age of 25, she finished her Ph.D. and decided to go back to her country Egypt to transfer the knowledge she gained abroad. She started her postdoctoral time at the Center for Genomics in 2015 and was appointed as a faculty member in 2020. During her postdoctoral time, she received the L’Oreal-UNESCO fellowship for women in science, Egypt and Levant in addition to the International Rising Talents fellowship by L’Oreal-UNESCO.

She was also selected by COMSTECH to attend the 68th Nobel Laureate Meeting dedicated to physiology and medicine, in Lindau, Germany. Moreover, she received the CRP-ICGEB Early Career Return Grant, The Re-integration grant of the Egyptian Science and Technology Development (STDF) and the joint ASRT-BA fund by The Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA).

Throughout her career, Menna has published articles and reviews in prestigious journals including Nature, Journal of Cell Biology and Cell Press journals.
