She received an MSc degree in Biotechnology at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya in 2008 and a PhD degree in Genetics at University of Nairobi, Kenya in 2012. Her research interests are in nematology, crop protection and environmental risk assessment of genetically modified crops.  In 2014, she was among the top women agricultural scientists in Sub-Saharan Africa who were awarded the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development award. In her research, she is actively engaged with Kenyan smallholder farmers in seeking solutions to low crop yields. During her fellowship in the Climate Impact Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement programme, she generated information on the potential impact of climate change on distribution and abundance of plant parasitic nematodes in Kenyan sweet potato agro-ecosystems. Her most recent work is on identification of sweet potato and rice cultivars that are resistant to the economically damaging root knot nematodes.
