Anyse Sofia Fernandes-Pereira began her academic journey in Cabo Verde, with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. Ever since, she has dedicated her research to investigate the medicinal power of plants and demonstrate the scientific validity of plant- based traditional medicine use. Currently, a PhD student of Tropical Knowledge and Management, with a specialization in Agrobiotecnology and Plant Molecular Biology, she is working specifically with the valorization of Cabo Verde ́s endemic flora, specially the species that are used in traditional medicine, aiming for the scientific validation of their therapeutic value, and thus forging a link between traditional and scientific knowledge. She is also investigating species that are related to economically important species and that can serve as gene donors in order to improve their resilience to climate change-related abiotic stress.
