UN to launch innovation training for governments

To commemorate International Environment Day (annually 5 June) hundreds of Haitian students take part in a massive tree-planting campaign at a pine forest, one of Haiti’s last, four hours drive from Port-au-Prince. The once-great forest has been depleted for charcoal production and to make room for farm land. A young girl carries her seedling to where it will be planted.

The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is to launch a project to help build policymakers’ capacity to implement science and innovation fostering plans in developing countries.

The move was prompted by the agency recognising that many developing countries were struggling to implement the recommendations it issues as part of its reviews of nations’ science, technology and innovation policies. Read more
