Women in Science

The Next Einstein Forum (NEF) is committed to advancing and showcasing the role of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The NEF Global Gathering participants will be at least 40 percent women. Furthermore, the NEF has committed to having at least 40 percent of each cohort of NEF Fellows be female.

According to UNESCO, only 29% of researchers in sub-Saharan Africa are women. The NEF is working to change this.

The NEF will feature profiles of eminent women in science, articles related to increasing female participation in science and research and articles that explore the gender dimension in research.

The NEF’s support of women in science is focused on:

  • Advocacy and public engagement
  • Leadership training
  • Research and analysis
  • Showcasing women scientists and technology experts in Africa

Topics to be explored include research of the gender gap in STEM fields, scientific research on women in leadership positions, the need for greater gender equity in African science and technology education, and the role of mentors and women experts in STEM fields.
